A. SCIENTIFIC EXCURSIONS: SUMMARY
For 2003, the Centre for Scientific Tourism in
Slovakia has prepared an extensive, flexible and compared to 2002 also slightly
modified excursion programme covering the following topics:
Natural History Tour: May 3 - 10, September 6
- 13, 2003
- Natural history of the Western Carpathians
(geology, soils, landscapes, vegetation, natural and semi-natural forests in
all altitudinal vegetation zones)
Geology of the Klippen Belt: September 27 -
October 4, 2003
- Different types of bedrock and landscapes
along the famous Carpathian Klippen Belt
Azonal Plant Communities: May 24 - 31, 2003
- Interdependence between soils, vegetation,
bedrock and relief; plant species with a narrow ecological tolerance bound to
certain types of West Carpathian biotopes, such as sands, karst, volcanic rock
etc.
Along the Vertical Transect: July 5 - 12, 2003
- Changes of the Carpathian vegetation
(Pannonian and mountainous elements) as a function of altitude; from the
Danube Lowland to the alpine environment of the High Tatras National Park
Primeval and Semi-Natural Forests: June 14 -
21, August 16 - 23, October 18 - 25, 2003
- Species composition, growth patterns,
autoregulation, autoreproduction and the overall homeostasis in the Carpathian
climax forests that represent altitudinal vegetation zones typical of the
Carpathians; legacy to the site-adopted forestry theory and practice
Natural Landscapes Management and
Sustainability: July 26 - August 2, 2003
- Development of agriculture, forestry and
tourism in natural landscapes, management of biosphere reserves, biodiversity
protection

Excursion fee: 590,- EUR
The fee includes:
- guide fees
- accommodation (seven overnight stays)
- full pension
- transport in excursion vehicles
- entrance fees (caves, museums...)
- various publications about Slovak nature
If you choose to use your own vehicle during the
excursion (not recommended due to transport on backroads and forest roads),
please contact us for a reduced fee.

B. CULTURAL AND RELAXATION
- From the very beginning, we have been
providing scientific excursion participants with an opportunity to
supplement and enrich the main scientific dimension of the programme by
visits to the most exciting Slovak cultural sites. Our to - date experience
is that excursion participants welcome and appreciate
"sendwiching" scientific programme with cultural aspects. More

Book on Slovak Primeval Forests finally presented
on November 28, 2001 at the Royal castle in Zvolen, Slovakia.
Containing texts written by more than twenty leading forestry scientists and
biologists and some 200 color pictures taken by prominent photographers, the
book represents a unique blend of up-to-date scientific information with an
impressive, though at the same time highly illustrative imagery on 200

resistant elm trees from Slanske Vrchy Mts., Slovakia
A new movie has been released these days by our camera crew. It is
devoted to the unique population of the Dutch elm disease resistant elms
found in the Slanske Vrchy Mts. as well their utilisation by means of in
vitro multiplication using cell cultures. The movie is available in VHS
or MPEG formats.

FORESTS IN SLOVAKIA
is the name of the movie released by CST and awarded at ENVIROFILM 2000,
the 6th International festival of programmes dealing with the
