(CST Slovakia - News)

CSTS study published by German State Nature Conservancy, MAB and CBD

A part of the study carried out by our Centre for Scientific Tourism in Slovakia on the impact of ecotourism on natural ecosystems has been published in the Proceedings of the German Federal Nature Conservancy (BfN-Skripten No 77, Bonn, Germany, 2003). The study has highlighted the need for inclusion of geoecology and conservation biology in the process of evaluation of projects aimed at the development of ecotourism schemes in biospehere reserves. It describes for example the impact of hiking and cycling activities on soils featuring special properties such as andosols and the use of site-adapted forestry methods in the management of forests of the Polana Biosphere Reserve, Slovakia. The study has also been posted by CBD and MAB.
