Technology at the service of excursion members (March 2002 Editorial)
We believe that these technical improvements will even more enhance the illustrative power of CSTS scientific excursions and perhaps reduce the need for handouts to a more reasonable extent. It will be possible for excursion members to download these animations as a both pre- and post-excursion learning tool. In the meantime I invite you to visit a new site www.poznajachran.sk (there is an English version as well) that we have launched recently. It contains a selection of early GIF animations prepared in co-operation between our animation crew and the ViaPVT, Inc., team who have digitalized the drawings. Note: "Poznaj a chran!" is a traditional greeting popular with Slovak nature conservationists and means "Learn about (Nature) and protect it!". |

The
Centre for Scientific Tourism will start using a PDA aided visualisation
directly in the field during its 2002 scientific excursions. Thus, natural
history of selected sites can be presented in a very illustrative manner by
showing developments of their geology, geomorphology and vegetation over
otherwise hardly comprehensible time scales.
